I have always needed to create.
Each piece I create is a one of a kind item. No two are ever really the same; kind of like snowflakes! I never know what will inspire me, it could be the view from a car or train window if I am travelling, an animal that comes into my backyard or it could be a topic I hear on the news that motivates me to paint something with the intention to bring awareness to others.
A couple of years ago, I started hearing and reading a lot of news stories about the issue of woman abuse, human trafficking, and women's rights. I decided that since it was Canada's 150th year of confederation I would make 150 individual maple leaf paintings. For every painting sold, a share of the profits went towards supporting our local shelter, London Abused Women's Centre (LAWC). By July 1st, I had sold out and was able to hand over a cheque to the LAWC.
It was so rewarding to use my love of creating in such a meaningful way!
Justin Trudeau, our Prime Minister has the 150th leaf along with a letter asking that our government make these issues a priority.
The 150 Maple Leaf initiative ignited a continued flame of creativity! Leaves are still created today, to continue the conversation. Alongside my leaves, I offer prints, which can be found in my Etsy Shop, commission pieces and workshops.
